Frequently Asked Questions
Getting Started
-
Our first session is a chance for us to get to know each other and see if working together feels like a good fit. We’ll review your intake paperwork, talk through what’s bringing you in and what you're hoping for from therapy, and explore your goals and background. There’s also space for you to ask any questions you may have. From there, we’ll decide together on next steps, including scheduling and session frequency.
-
Therapy can be helpful for many people, but it does require some level of readiness and willingness to engage. A good fit therapist should feel safe, welcoming, and attuned to your needs.
Everyone has different preferences when it comes to therapy. Some people want more structure or tools, while others prefer open-ended conversations. My approach is flexible and person-centered, meaning we can shape the work together in a way that feels supportive to you.
-
I typically recommend weekly sessions to start, as this helps build connection and momentum. Depending on your needs, we can explore other session frequencies together.
-
This varies depending on your goals and needs. Some clients attend therapy for a few months, while others stay longer.
For grief in particular, therapy can be open-ended as the process shifts over time and doesn't follow a predictable timeline.
Fees & Payment
-
I do not accept insurance directly. However, you may be able to use out-of-network benefits for reimbursement. I can provide a superbill upon request for this process.
-
A superbill is a detailed receipt that you can submit to your insurance company for possible reimbursement. You can contact your insurance provider to learn more about your out-of-network benefits.
-
I offer a tiered fee structure designed to support accessibility. Higher-tier fees help support lower-cost spots for those who need them.
Lower tiers are limited and based on availability. You can find more detailed information about rates on the Services page. Payment plans may be available when appropriate.
-
I accept debit, credit, and cash. Most payments are processed through the secure client portal. I can also accept HSAs.
Licensing & Credentials
-
LLMSW stands for Limited Licensed Master Social Worker. I hold a Master’s degree in Social Work from Michigan State University and have completed over 900 clinical hours during my graduate training. This license allows me to provide therapy under the supervision of a fully licensed clinician.
-
Yes, I work under the supervision of Hannah Webb, LMSW.
-
As a board-certified music therapist, I completed specialized training, over 1,200 clinical hours, and a certification exam. Music therapy uses music-based experiences like listening, songwriting, or improvisation to support therapeutic goals and emotional processing.
While I may incorporate music when it feels helpful, it is always optional and not a requirement for therapy.
-
EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a structured therapy that can support the processing of traumatic or distressing experiences. It involves bilateral stimulation, such as guided eye movements, to support how the brain organizes and integrates difficult experiences. I integrate EMDR when it feels appropriate for your needs.
Approach & Fit
-
I specialize in grief and loss, including both death and non-death loss. This can include the loss of a loved one, relationship changes, identity shifts, or major life transitions.
I also support clients experiencing anxiety, self-esteem concerns, and emotional overwhelm.
My practice is affirming and inclusive and I especially enjoy working with women and LGBTQIA+ clients.
-
My approach is humanistic, person-centered, and relational. I focus on building a strong therapeutic relationship and supporting deeper self-understanding.
I integrate a range of approaches based on your needs, including EMDR, parts work, somatic practices, CBT, DBT, narrative therapy, and creative interventions.
-
Not at all. No musical experience is required, and music-based work is always optional. Many interventions don’t involve singing or playing instruments.
-
I am not a religious therapist, but I respect and hold space for all belief systems. I approach spirituality broadly and follow your lead if this is something you’d like to explore in therapy.
-
My goal is to create a space that feels warm, safe, and non-judgmental. My style is relational, open, and authentic. I may share parts of myself when it supports connection, while still maintaining appropriate boundaries.
I encourage you to trust your sense of what feels supportive for you.
